About busy lady

Once upon a time I was retired. But I came to live with my younger daughter and homeschooled her oldest son for two years. He went to school for 8th grade and now is in high school. I get to spend lots of time with my other three grandchildren. I write poetry and enjoy making books of them. I don't live with my daughter now; I have my own apartment which I love, and my own little kitty, which I named Shere Khan. However, unlike his name sake, he is not a brave, mean kitty. But I like it that way! I live only a few miles from my daughter and her family. I wish my other daughter was closer, but two hours away is not bad. Her three boys are all teenagers now. Its fun to be a grandma! My life is good.

BROTHERS

We have two house kittens. They have never been outside. They are brothers and they love people. Recently we bought a new screen door so when the day was pleasant, I opened the door so the day could shine into the house. I couldn’t catch the picture of them both looking out the door, watching the chickens, Reginald G.P. Cuddles and Henrietta, they hadn’t seen before. I did however catch the picture of Sylvester looking out the door, while Marmelade kept grabbing his tail.

GOOD DAYS, BAD DAYS, ADJUSTMENTS

Hello at last! It feels like forever since I have been on my blog. For those who have left comments that have not been responded to, please forgive me. I think adjustments to homeschooling and life with four active grandchildren (as well as healing from a bacterial infection which caused lots of coughing and restless nights) are working to give me more time for my personal pursuits, like blogging.

On weekday mornings, I take my homeschooled boy to band with his french horn to the middle school. It is a gift from the Lord to drive down the tree -lined country roads. When the trees on the main road give way to farm lands (the trees still line the horizon), it is still lovely. It is a refreshing time to drive to and from and to spend the fifty waiting minutes to read or go to the nearby Kroger market to pick up items I or the family might need. Twice a week, we have PE, swimming at the YMCA.

As I take stock of my life with my family, I see I am blessed in all things, even in the needed work on my little car. God is good; all things go through His sovereign hand out of His love for me. I can trust Him in all things.

May God give you a good day and strengthen you in the bad.

Reginald G P Cuddles

Our rooster
Our rooster

Mr. Reginald Gray Peeps Cuddles is quite a character with his feathery legs and his regal appearance. Until a few weeks ago, there were several hens and one more rooster. However, my family sold all of them except Mr. Cuddles and his friend, Henrietta. Chickens are social creatures and since all their friends have gone away, they have just each other and we always see them together.

How did Mr. Cuddles get his name? When he was a “Gray Peep,” he was the favorite of my 5-year-old grandson. Nathanael would catch him and hold him (which led to the name Mr. Cuddles); he loved his gray peep dearly. Mr. Cuddles doesn’t often get cuddled now, but Nathanael loves him dearly still. When the other chickens were finding new homes, we couldn’t bear to part with this family “pet.” Mr. Cuddles got to stay and since Henrietta didn’t find a new home, she got to stay, too.
Mr. Cuddles’ first name, Reginald? It just fit his regal (or is it pompous?) bearing.

SCHOOL HAS BEGUN

The school year has started and I have begun homeschooling my 6th grade grandson. I do enjoy it. However, the technology involved with having his school online has taken time for both of us (especially Grandma) to get used to! But I think we at last have it under control! He is a good student and tries hard to do what he needs to do. It seems he is enjoying homeschooling versus sitting in a classroom all day. And I am enjoying his company.

QUIET TIME

It is so quiet! The family has gone camping; I chose to stay home. I love being  at my daughter’s, but it is nice to be here alone at times! Now the only disturbance is the two cats and the puppy! I must admit, it does get a little lonely, but won’t for long. They will be back tomorrow afternoon. Until then, I will enjoy the quiet,  and keeping all things running–sheep, chicken, puppy, cats. I guess I am not alone after all! 🙂

His Terms and the Call to Come and Die.

Jay's avatarOn This Side.

A call to come and die. I have received it. Not well at first but now I carry this calling with me wherever I go. I can’t recall a time I didn’t believe in the creator of the universe and the holy Trinity or a time that Jesus hadn’t died for my sins. But I can remember when there was no understanding of what being a follower of Christ meant for me. Not the full weight of it. I though it meant Jesus and I were buddies and that He was supposed to make things better if I was good. I don’t know that I knew I believed that, but I did. I thought being a Christian was supposed to make me happy.

I started therapy at five. I can’t remember why. I am sure my mother could tell you. She told me once people wanted to take me away…

His Works of Art

It was pleasant sitting outside and swinging on the porch swing the other evening. It was warm, but not too uncomfortable. I was pleasantly surprised to see a hummingbird fly around the feeder, land, suck in some food, and fly off again. The next day I saw a couple birds, then three, then four, eventually five. It was a marvelous sight.
